The Limestone Coast Railway is based in Mount Gambier, South Australia.
We are also foundation members of the Council of Heritage Railways & Tramways of South Australia (What is CHRTSA?)
The Limestone Coast Railway is currently operated and maintained by volunteers from all walks of life. For example some of our volunteers are farmers, electricians, office workers, teachers, shop owners, students, mechanics and retired railway employees. Our workforce is also supplemented by "Work for the Dole" and Community Service workers.
To date (January 2005) over 65,000 hours of volunteer work has been undertaken with respect to restoration of railcars, track maintenance, grass cutting / growth control, building maintenance, track inspections, in home offices and maintaining passenger trains.
Although the Limestone Coast Railway has currently suspended its tourist train services, we are still conducting line and rolling stock maintenance.
Our first passenger service began on Mothers Day 1998.
Regular trips operated until passenger services were suspended on June 30th, 2006.
